Pique
Inspiration
I aimed to design a set of lamps to honor & memorialize the relationship between my grandmother, mother, and I after my grandmother suddenly passed away. I drew inspiration from modern religious spaces and objects that belonged in a set.
Development
I sketched a variety of intersecting shapes and patterns, and how these shapes might interact from different viewpoints. Below are some of the notable sketches.
Prototyping
I used a variety of materials to learn something different about my design each time I built a prototype. I explored shape, cut-out patterns, thickness, and light projection.
Completed Product
I manufactured the final product by laser-cutting clear acrylic sheets, painting the outside black and the insides metallic colors, and adhering the corners together. For manufacture on a larger scale, I would consider water-jet cutting thin steel sheets, then brazing the parts together at the edges.
