Brass, Bubinga, and Bianco
Inspiration
My hometown is very close to Napa Valley, and I appreciate the aesthetic and culture around viticulture. When I looked up wine bottle and glass holders, I was not particularly fond of any of the solutions that currently existed. I wanted a beautiful way to display a complementary part of a dinner experience.
Design
I explored a number of forms for my wine bottle holder. I decided to pursue a more minimalist form factor, focusing on the visual weight and material choice for the project.
Prototype
3D prototyping helped me determine the final form of my wine bottle holder, and was critical for determining the correct dimensions of my parts.
3D Modeling
Solidworks helped me determine how my parts should fit together, and HSMWorks allowed me to create the code necessary to manufacture my parts on the CNC.
Manufacturing
As my geometries were relatively simple, my technical challenges came from determining the best way to fixture my parts. I decided on strap clamps for the flat neck rest, and bolted an aluminum block to the underside of my spherical part.
